CEDER
The CEDER project is a specific targeted research or innovation project and a part of the
EU's 6th framework program (FP6).
CEDER's home page is available at http://ceder.jrc.cec.eu.int/ .
In order to provide an accurate estimation of the fishing stocks it is imperative to estimate the
amount of fishing activities in different sea areas. The project aims to utilize the technologies of VMS and Electronic logbooks to provide more accurate information on effort, catch and discard.
It is the primary objective of this project to harness technologies in order to provide more accurate and more timely information on catches, effort, landings, discards and quota and TAC uptake and to assess the benefits of this information for fisheries' management.
Until today, reporting of fishing activities has been done manually, and is therefore subject to errors and deceptions. Correlation Systems Ltd. is implementing a behavioral analysis model in order to estimate vessel activities ('effort' model) based on geospatial information provided by Vessel Monitoring Systems (VMS).
System evaluation in the North Sea shows that our behavioral analysis model improves the effort estimation by at least 35%. View a presentation providing an overview of the results
The project includes analyses of vessel’s behavior, and statistical
and mathematical modeling tools to explore and quantify
relationships between capacity, effort and species mortality,
partitioned by fleet and area. This system proposes a series of new
models, including an effort model.
